| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | honor the late Cleveland Burton Jackson on the occasion of his |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | 2015 posthumous induction into the African American Educators |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Hall of Fame; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Cleveland Jackson served the Dallas Independent |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | School District for nearly 40 years; after teaching at Sequoyah |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and Thomas C. Marsh Junior High Schools and at W. H. Adamson High |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | School, he joined the faculty at Lincoln High School, where his |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | ability to bring real-world experiences to the mathematics |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | classroom sparked a genuine interest in the subject among |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | countless students; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson also served as a coach for athletic |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and academic teams and was a faculty sponsor for a wide variety of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | student organizations; he was a pioneer in the use of computers |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | in mathematics classes, and he led such student initiatives as |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the Silent Souls Project to restore Glen Oaks Cemetery and the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | efforts to rename a campus building the Napoleon B. Lewis |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Mathematics and Science Annex; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Cleveland Jackson was beloved by many generations |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | of Lincoln High School students for his skillful teaching |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | methods, his sincere concern for the individual, and his wise |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | counsel and encouragement; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life and legacy of the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | late Cleveland Burton Jackson, who has been posthumously |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | inducted into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | his family as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate. |
