| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize John Freeman Hightower on the occasion of his 2015 |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, During his long career, John Hightower served as |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | an inspiration to students and fellow educators with his vision, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | his wise counsel, his scholarly guidance, and his irrepressible |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | positive attitude; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hightower served with distinction for 50 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | years with the Plano Independent School District; he taught |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | science and coached at Douglass High School for many years before |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | moving into the administrative ranks; he then served as a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | principal and later as a coordinator of ethnic relations and as |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | director of special services; he has been named the recipient of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the Living Legend award, and in recognition of his exceptional |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | service to the district, the John F. Hightower Elementary School |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | was named in his honor; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, John Hightower has had a profound impact on the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | lives of countless young people, and he is truly deserving of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | special recognition for his outstanding contributions to his |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | community and his profession; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature, hereby commend John Freeman Hightower on his |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | commitment to excellence in education and extend congratulations |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | to him on his 2015 induction into the African American Educators |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Hall of Fame; and, be it further |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 28 | 28 | | him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
