| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Dr. Marie A. Barree on the occasion of her 2015 |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of her distinguished career, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Dr. Barree has served as an elementary school teacher, a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | mathematics facilitator in the Dallas Independent School |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | District, and as an educator in the Catholic Diocese; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, She began her teaching career in 1948 in Crowell |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | at a time when formal education for African Americans often ended |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | after the seventh grade; in response to this educational |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | shortcoming, she and her husband designed a curriculum and became |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | certified to teach at the high school level, and they helped |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | countless students complete their high school degrees; she has |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | also helped numerous prisoners turn their lives around by helping |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | them earn general educational development certification; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, She has had a profound impact on the lives of her |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | students and their families, and it is truly fitting that she |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | receive special recognition for her many achievements; now, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Marie A. Barree on her commitment |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | to excellence in education and extend congratulations to her on |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | her 2015 induction into the African American Educators Hall of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Fame; and, be it further |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
