| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | welcome to Austin the visiting delegation from Denton County and |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | to designate February 23 and 24, 2015, as Denton County Days at |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Denton County was created in 1846 out of land from |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the original Peters Colony Grant and was named for John B. |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Denton, a pioneer lawyer and Methodist minister; the City of |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Denton has served as the county seat since 1857; the historic |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Denton County Courthouse that stands on the square in Denton was |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | dedicated in 1897; with its limestone exterior and majestic clock |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | tower, it has long been one of the region's most impressive |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | sights; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Denton County is well known as a center for higher |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | education; the county has 11 outstanding public school districts |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and is home to such distinguished institutions as the University |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | of North Texas, established in 1890, Texas Woman's University, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | established in 1901, and North Central Texas College; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Denton County has experienced rapid growth since |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the 1970s, and the 2010 census placed its population at 662,614; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | its cities and chambers of commerce provide a welcoming business |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | climate, and the county has been recognized nationally as an |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | exceptional place to live and work; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The area offers many cultural and recreational |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | opportunities, including the Texas Motor Speedway, Lake Ray |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Roberts, and Lewisville Lake, which contribute to the region's |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | thriving economy and progressive development; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The visiting Denton County delegation is composed |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of mayors and civic, business, and educational leaders and is |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | headed by County Judge Mary Horn and County Commissioners Hugh |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Coleman, Ron Marchant, Bobbie J. Mitchell, and Andy Eads; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Denton County have contributed |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | greatly to the growth and prosperity of the Lone Star State over |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | the years, and they can be justifiably proud of their many |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | achievements as they look to the future; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby join the Denton County delegation in |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | celebrating February 23 and 24, 2015, as Denton County Days at |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | the State Capitol and extend to all best wishes for a memorable |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | visit to Austin; and, be it further |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | honor of this special occasion. |
