| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Katherine Spearman for her outstanding work in the |

| 4 | 4 | | office of Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Katherine was a participant in the Texas |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Legislative Internship Program administered by the Mickey Leland |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Center on World Hunger and Peace at Texas Southern |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | University; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, This excellent internship program, established in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | December of 1990, provides a unique opportunity for students from |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Texas colleges and universities to serve as interns in the Texas |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Legislature, the United States Congress, and a variety of local, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | state, and national governmental agencies and public policy |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | organizations; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Students receive academic credit for |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | participating in the program, which combines academic study and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | research with supervised practical training; Senator Rodney |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Ellis serves as a program advisor, and the senator's office |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | assists with coordinating the on-site activities; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, As an intern, Katherine has gained firsthand |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | knowledge of the governmental process and work experience in a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | political environment, as well as insight into the issues facing |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | our communities and our state today; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Diligent, resourceful, and talented, Katherine |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | skillfully handled the multifaceted duties of the lieutenant |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | governor's office and has made positive contributions to the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | development of sound public policy; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend Katherine Spearman for her |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | dedication and excellent work as a participant in the Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislative Internship Program and extend to her best wishes for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
