SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 908 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Becky Moeller, who is retiring as President of the Texas American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations after a long and distinguished career in union leadership; and WHEREAS, Becky Moeller became the first woman to hold statewide elected office in the Texas labor federation in 2003, when she was elected secretary-treasurer; in that office, she brought efficiencies and oversight to the budget that kept programs successful through a time of transition; and WHEREAS, As president, she has effectively overseen the organization's legislative, political education, and community service programs for 235,000 members; she was instrumental in the implementation of a political education program that helped to produce substantial gains for labor-backed candidates at the state and national levels; and WHEREAS, Highly respected in her field, Becky Moeller has been a key figure in the Texas labor movement; she is admired for her absolute dedication to the cause of labor in the state, and her presence at the federation will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th Legislature, hereby commend Becky Moeller for her exceptional contributions as president of the Texas American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
