5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6	6	commemorates the life of United States Army Captain Andrew
7	7	Michael Pedersen-Keel, who died in the line of duty March 11,
8	8	2013, at the age of 28 while serving his country in Afghanistan; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Andrew Pedersen-Keel was born June 8, 1984, in
10	10	South Miami, Florida; he earned a degree in American legal
11	11	studies from the United States Military Academy at West Point in
12	12	2006, and he entered active duty military service as an Infantry
13	13	Rifle Platoon leader with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st
14	14	Infantry Division, at Fort Hood; and
15	15	WHEREAS, He was deployed to Afghanistan in 2008 and served
16	16	for 12 months; during that time, he led his platoon on more than
17	17	150 combat foot patrols and three air assault operations and was
18	18	promoted to captain; upon his return, he volunteered for and
19	19	completed the Special Forces Assessment and Selection Course and
20	20	was assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group as a detachment
21	21	commander in August of 2012; he was deployed with the unit to
22	22	Afghanistan, and he was involved with training the Afghan Army at
23	23	the time of his death; and
24	24	WHEREAS, His many commendations and citations included two
25	25	Bronze Stars, the Army Commendation Medal, and the National
26	26	Defense Service Medal; he was posthumously awarded a third Bronze
27	27	Star and a Purple Heart; and
28	28	WHEREAS, A young man of courage and strength, he had a
29	29	profoundinfluenceonthesoldierswithwhomheserved,andhis
30	30	spirit continues to live on in the hearts and minds of those who
31	31	fought beside him; and
32	32	WHEREAS, In recognition of his ultimate sacrifice in the
33	33	Global War on Terror, Captain Pedersen-Keel is being
34	34	posthumously honored at a Joint Memorial Day Ceremony in the
35	35	Texas House of Representatives on May 23, 2015; now, therefore,
36	36	be it
37	37	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
38	38	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
39	39	family of Captain Andrew Michael Pedersen-Keel; and, be it further
40	40	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
41	41	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
42	42	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
43	43	memory of Andrew Michael Pedersen-Keel.
