                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 949
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Jerry Dunfey on the grand occasion of his 80th
 birthday; and
 WHEREAS, Jerry Dunfey was born May 23, 1935; as a young
 man, he went into business with his brothers, and by the 1960s,
 they had founded Dunfey Hotels, known today as Omni Hotels
 International; and
 WHEREAS, His family has always been very active in
 Democratic politics, and after working on John F. Kennedy's
 presidential campaign, Mr. Dunfey had the honor of being invited
 to the presidential inauguration; today, he continues to serve as
 an activist with Friends of Obama; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Dunfey shares a life of service with his wife,
 Nadine B. Hack, with whom he has actively worked to promote civil
 rights and address global issues; they have served on a number of
 civic boards, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for
 Nonviolent Change, and they were guests of state at President
 Nelson Mandela's 1994 inauguration; he serves as president of
 Global Citizens Circle; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Dunfey is a loving father, and his six
 grandchildren are a source of immense pride and joy; he is
 respected and admired by many, and his birthday is indeed cause
 for celebration among his family members and friends; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby congratulate Jerry Dunfey on the occasion of
 his 80th birthday, May 23, 2015, and extend to him best wishes for
 the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
