| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Jerry Dunfey on the grand occasion of his 80th |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | birthday; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Jerry Dunfey was born May 23, 1935; as a young |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | man, he went into business with his brothers, and by the 1960s, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | they had founded Dunfey Hotels, known today as Omni Hotels |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | International; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, His family has always been very active in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Democratic politics, and after working on John F. Kennedy's |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | presidential campaign, Mr. Dunfey had the honor of being invited |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | to the presidential inauguration; today, he continues to serve as |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | an activist with Friends of Obama; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Dunfey shares a life of service with his wife, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Nadine B. Hack, with whom he has actively worked to promote civil |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | rights and address global issues; they have served on a number of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | civic boards, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Nonviolent Change, and they were guests of state at President |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Nelson Mandela's 1994 inauguration; he serves as president of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Global Citizens Circle; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Dunfey is a loving father, and his six |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | grandchildren are a source of immense pride and joy; he is |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | respected and admired by many, and his birthday is indeed cause |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | for celebration among his family members and friends; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | therefore, be it |

| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Jerry Dunfey on the occasion of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | his 80th birthday, May 23, 2015, and extend to him best wishes for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the future; and, be it further |
