| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Honorable Terry Simpson, county judge of San |

| 3 | 3 | | Patricio County, has been named the 2014 Newsmaker of the Year by |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | the Corpus Christi Caller-Times; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from Sinton High School in 1970, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Terry Simpson began a career in law enforcement as a deputy |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | sheriff and a dispatcher for the San Patricio County Sheriff's |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Office; he joined the Sinton Police Department as a patrol |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | officer in 1977 and then later resumed his service with the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | sheriff's department; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Judge Simpson entered politics in 1997 when the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | commissioners court appointed him justice of the peace for San |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Patricio County Precinct 1, and he was elected to that office by |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | area voters two years later; he went on to win the seat for county |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | judge in 2002, and he has since been victorious in each |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | subsequent bid for reelection; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his tenure, Judge Simpson has |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | made exceptional efforts toward the development of San Patricio |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | County, prioritizing regional road projects and securing a seat for |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the county on the Corpus Christi Port Commission; he has further |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | distinguished himself as chair of the Corpus Christi Metropolitan |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Planning Organization board and as president of the County Judges |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and Commissioners Association of Texas; in recognition of his |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | outstanding work, the Texas Department of Transportation presented |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | him with the prestigious Road Hand Award; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed public official has set high |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | standards of leadership throughout a notable career of service, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and his impressive achievements have earned him the deep respect |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | and appreciation of his fellow Texans; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate the Honorable Terry Simpson on |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | his selection as the 2014 Newsmaker of the Year by the Corpus |

| 33 | 33 | | Christi Caller-Times and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
