4	4	Morris Schuler Nelson
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
6	6	of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of Morris Schuler Nelson, who
7	7	died December 13, 2013, at the age of 78; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Schuler Nelson was born December 16, 1934, in Waco;
9	9	he served as a cadet lieutenant colonel in the Reserve Officers'
10	10	Training Corps at Texas Western College, and he graduated as a
11	11	distinguished military graduate with a bachelor's degree in mining
12	12	engineering in 1957; and
13	13	WHEREAS, After college, Mr. Nelson served his country with
14	14	distinction in active duty for six months and as a reservist for
15	15	eight years; he began his career in construction with the Austin
16	16	Road Company, a major highway contractor; he was president of the
17	17	company, and he retired after 34 years of outstanding service; and
18	18	WHEREAS, A well-known leader in his field, he served as a
19	19	board member and president of the Texas Chapter of the Associated
20	20	General Contractors of America and the Texas Hot Mix Asphalt
21	21	Pavement Association; and
22	22	WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson was a man of spiritual depth and a
23	23	member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 50 years; he was a member of
24	24	the board of the Trinity Lutheran Children's Center and chairman
25	25	of the Endowment Committee; and
26	26	WHEREAS, Schuler Nelson was a devoted husband, father, and
27	27	grandfather who was beloved by many, and he leaves behind memories
28	28	that will long be cherished by all who were privileged to share in
29	29	his life; now, therefore, be it
30	30	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
31	31	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
32	32	family of Morris Schuler Nelson; and, be it further
33	33	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
34	34	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
35	35	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
36	36	memory of Schuler Nelson.
