55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
66 of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of Morris Schuler Nelson, who
77 died December 13, 2013, at the age of 78; and
88 WHEREAS, Schuler Nelson was born December 16, 1934, in Waco;
99 he served as a cadet lieutenant colonel in the Reserve Officers'
1010 Training Corps at Texas Western College, and he graduated as a
1111 distinguished military graduate with a bachelor's degree in mining
1212 engineering in 1957; and
1313 WHEREAS, After college, Mr. Nelson served his country with
1414 distinction in active duty for six months and as a reservist for
1515 eight years; he began his career in construction with the Austin
1616 Road Company, a major highway contractor; he was president of the
1717 company, and he retired after 34 years of outstanding service; and
1818 WHEREAS, A well-known leader in his field, he served as a
1919 board member and president of the Texas Chapter of the Associated
2020 General Contractors of America and the Texas Hot Mix Asphalt
2121 Pavement Association; and
2222 WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson was a man of spiritual depth and a
2323 member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 50 years; he was a member of
2424 the board of the Trinity Lutheran Children's Center and chairman
2525 of the Endowment Committee; and
2626 WHEREAS, Schuler Nelson was a devoted husband, father, and
2727 grandfather who was beloved by many, and he leaves behind memories
2828 that will long be cherished by all who were privileged to share in
2929 his life; now, therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3131 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3232 family of Morris Schuler Nelson; and, be it further
3333 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3434 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3535 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3636 memory of Schuler Nelson.
