5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins citizens
6	6	across the state in mourning the loss of beloved fiddler John
7	7	Paul Gimble, who died May 9, 2015, at the age of 88; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Johnny Gimble was born in Tyler on May 30, 1926;
9	9	inspired by his uncles' musical talent, he began playing fiddle
10	10	at age 10, and within two years he was performing with his
11	11	brothers in his first band, the Rose City Swingsters; and
12	12	WHEREAS, His legendary music career took off in 1949, when
13	13	he began playing fiddle and electric mandolin for Bob Wills'
14	14	Texas Playboys, a renowned western swing band; he left Texas in
15	15	1968 to join the Nashville music scene and found success as a
16	16	session musician and as a regular on the famed television series
17	17	Hee Haw; and
18	18	WHEREAS, His love for Texas eventually drew him back to his
19	19	home state, and in the ensuing years he worked with such greats
20	20	as Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson; his extraordinary talent was
21	21	brought to the big screen in films like Honkytonk Man and
22	22	Honeysuckle Rose; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Between 1975 and 1990, Johnny won a total of 14
24	24	Musician of the Year awards, and his timeless talent was woven
25	25	into modern country music through his work with stars, such as
26	26	Carrie Underwood, Vince Gill, and Ray Benson of Asleep at the
27	27	Wheel; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Johnny Gimble was a treasured son of the Lone Star
29	29	State, and he and his musical legacy will live on in the hearts of
30	30	his countless fans and loved ones; now, therefore, be it
31	31	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
32	32	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
33	33	family of John Paul Gimble; and, be it further
34	34	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
35	35	his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
36	36	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
37	37	memory of Johnny Gimble.
