| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Ben Thompson for his success at the 2015 University |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Interscholastic League track and field state championships; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Ben competed in the 100-meter and 400-meter |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | wheelchair races at the state meet in Austin; he finished fifth |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in the 100-meter race with a time of 20.76 and fourth in the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 400-meter race with a personal-best time of 1:16.26; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A student at Hirschi High School in Wichita Falls, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Ben was born with spina bifida, which affected the development of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | his legs; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Ben has refused to allow his condition to define |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | his life and has embraced an active lifestyle that includes |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | playing basketball at his church, serving as statistician and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | student manager for several Huskies athletic teams, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | participating in the rigorous International Baccalaureate |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | academic program; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Ben participated in the track and field |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | wheelchair division for the first time this year; he worked hard |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | at training for his events and steadily improved his times, and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | he has been using a racing wheelchair only since the district |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | meet this year; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, He is truly deserving of recognition for his |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | perseverance and positive outlook and his success as a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | competitive athlete; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend Ben Thompson on his exemplary |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | achievements at the 2015 University Interscholastic League track |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | and field championships and extend to him best wishes for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
