5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens |
---|
6 | 6 | | of Austin in mourning the loss of Marguerite Marie Labasse |
---|
7 | 7 | | Knisely, who died May 6, 2015, at the age of 93; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Marguerite Labasse was born April 1, 1922, in the |
---|
9 | 9 | | rural village of Gentinnes, Belgium, and she moved to the City of |
---|
10 | 10 | | Gembloux as a teenager; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, She served as an interpreter for American troops |
---|
12 | 12 | | stationed in Gembloux in the final months of World War II, and |
---|
13 | 13 | | during her service, she met and fell in love with Bill Knisely, a |
---|
14 | 14 | | soldier from Michigan; she crossed the Atlantic in 1947, and they |
---|
15 | 15 | | married three days after her arrival; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Knisely actively supported her husband while |
---|
17 | 17 | | he earned his doctoral degree in anatomy at the Medical College |
---|
18 | 18 | | of South Carolina, and she was his partner and confidante as he |
---|
19 | 19 | | pursued a career in academic administration; they were blessed |
---|
20 | 20 | | with five children, and the family moved throughout the United |
---|
21 | 21 | | States as Mr. Knisely took on leadership roles at prominent |
---|
22 | 22 | | universities; they lived in Austin during the 1960s and moved |
---|
23 | 23 | | back to Austin in 1994; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, She was dedicated to her work as a homemaker and |
---|
25 | 25 | | raised her children with an energetic and loving hand; she was |
---|
26 | 26 | | known for her outstanding cooking and knitting skills, and she |
---|
27 | 27 | | produced innumerable blankets, scarves, and sweaters for her |
---|
28 | 28 | | nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Marguerite Knisely was an independent, intelligent, |
---|
30 | 30 | | and compassionate woman who was devoted to her husband and |
---|
31 | 31 | | children and who remained active throughout her life; she was |
---|
32 | 32 | | beloved by many, and she leaves behind memories that will long be |
---|
33 | 33 | | cherished by all who were privileged to share in her life; now, |
---|
34 | 34 | | therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
37 | 37 | | family of Marguerite Marie Labasse Knisely; and, be it further |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
39 | 39 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
41 | 41 | | memory of Marguerite Knisely. |
