55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
66 of Austin in mourning the loss of Marguerite Marie Labasse
77 Knisely, who died May 6, 2015, at the age of 93; and
88 WHEREAS, Marguerite Labasse was born April 1, 1922, in the
99 rural village of Gentinnes, Belgium, and she moved to the City of
1010 Gembloux as a teenager; and
1111 WHEREAS, She served as an interpreter for American troops
1212 stationed in Gembloux in the final months of World War II, and
1313 during her service, she met and fell in love with Bill Knisely, a
1414 soldier from Michigan; she crossed the Atlantic in 1947, and they
1515 married three days after her arrival; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mrs. Knisely actively supported her husband while
1717 he earned his doctoral degree in anatomy at the Medical College
1818 of South Carolina, and she was his partner and confidante as he
1919 pursued a career in academic administration; they were blessed
2020 with five children, and the family moved throughout the United
2121 States as Mr. Knisely took on leadership roles at prominent
2222 universities; they lived in Austin during the 1960s and moved
2323 back to Austin in 1994; and
2424 WHEREAS, She was dedicated to her work as a homemaker and
2525 raised her children with an energetic and loving hand; she was
2626 known for her outstanding cooking and knitting skills, and she
2727 produced innumerable blankets, scarves, and sweaters for her
2828 nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and
2929 WHEREAS, Marguerite Knisely was an independent, intelligent,
3030 and compassionate woman who was devoted to her husband and
3131 children and who remained active throughout her life; she was
3232 beloved by many, and she leaves behind memories that will long be
3333 cherished by all who were privileged to share in her life; now,
3434 therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
3636 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3737 family of Marguerite Marie Labasse Knisely; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3939 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4040 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4141 memory of Marguerite Knisely.
