| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 223, Transportation Code, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | is amended by adding Section 223.051 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 223.051. NOTIFICATION BY MUNICIPALITY OF SCHEDULED |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | EVENT. A contract for an improvement to a segment of the state |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | highway system must prohibit a contractor from temporarily closing |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the highway, including temporarily relocating or changing an |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | entrance or exit ramp to or from the highway, on the date that an |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | event is scheduled to be held in a municipality in which the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | improvement is being proposed if, not later than 180 days before the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | date the event is scheduled to be held, the municipality notifies |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the department and the contractor of the date. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | SECTION 2. Section 223.051, Transportation Code, as added |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | by this Act, applies only to a contract entered into on or after the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | effective date of this Act. A contract entered into before the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | date the contract was entered into, and the former law is continued |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | in effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
