9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 276.001(a), Election Code, is amended to | |
11 | 11 | read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (a) A person commits an offense if, in retaliation against a | |
13 | 13 | voter, including a presidential elector, who has voted for or | |
14 | 14 | against a candidate or measure or a voter who has refused to reveal | |
15 | 15 | how the voter voted, the person knowingly: | |
16 | 16 | (1) harms or threatens to harm the voter by an unlawful | |
17 | 17 | act; or | |
18 | 18 | (2) with respect to a voter over whom the person has | |
19 | 19 | authority in the scope of employment, subjects or threatens to | |
20 | 20 | subject the voter to a loss or reduction of wages or another benefit | |
21 | 21 | of employment. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
