| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 28.002(b-3), Education Code, is amended | |
| 11 | 11 | to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (b-3) A school district may not use common core state | |
| 13 | 13 | standards to comply with the requirement to provide instruction in | |
| 14 | 14 | the essential knowledge and skills at appropriate grade levels | |
| 15 | 15 | under Subsection (c). The State Board of Education by rule shall | |
| 16 | 16 | adopt procedures to monitor school districts to ensure that | |
| 17 | 17 | districts comply with the prohibition provided by this subsection. | |
| 18 | 18 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 19 | 19 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 20 | 20 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 21 | 21 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 22 | 22 | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
