77 relating to a study on the implementation of photo voter
88 identification requirements.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 31, Election Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 31.013 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 31.013. STUDY ON IMPLEMENTATION OF VOTER
1313 IDENTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS. (a) The secretary of state shall
1414 conduct a study on the implementation of the changes in law made by
1515 Chapter 123 (S.B. 14), Acts of the 82nd Legislature, Regular
1616 Session, 2011, including:
1717 (1) the costs of implementation;
1818 (2) additional requirements for election workers to
1919 accept a voter;
2020 (3) the amount of time needed to accept a voter at the
2121 polling place; and
2222 (4) training, if any, provided to election workers at
2323 the county and precinct levels.
2424 (b) Not later than January 1, 2019, the secretary of state
2525 shall report the study's findings to the committees of each house of
2626 the legislature with jurisdiction over elections.
2727 (c) This section expires September 1, 2019.
2828 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2929 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3030 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3131 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3232 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
