66 AN ACT
77 relating to the offense of operating certain vehicles without a
88 license plate.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 504.943(b), Transportation Code, is
1111 amended to read as follows:
1212 (b) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a
1313 public highway during a registration period a road tractor, a
1414 motorcycle, a trailer, a [or] semitrailer, or a motor vehicle
1515 equipped with technology that would be impaired by the display of a
1616 front license plate that does not display a license plate that:
1717 (1) has been assigned by the department for the
1818 period; and
1919 (2) complies with department rules regarding the
2020 placement of license plates.
2121 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
2222 to an offense committed on or after the effective date of this Act.
2323 An offense committed before the effective date of this Act is
2424 covered by the law in effect on the date the offense was committed,
2525 and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. For
2626 purposes of this section, an offense was committed before the
2727 effective date of this Act if any element of the offense occurred
2828 before that date.
2929 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
