66 AN ACT
77 relating to acceptable forms of identification for voting.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 63.0101, Election Code, is amended to
1010 read as follows:
1111 Sec. 63.0101. DOCUMENTATION OF PROOF OF
1212 IDENTIFICATION. The following documentation is an acceptable form
1313 of photo identification under this chapter:
1414 (1) a driver's license, election identification
1515 certificate, or personal identification card issued to the person
1616 by the Department of Public Safety that has not expired or that
1717 expired no earlier than 60 days before the date of presentation;
1818 (2) a United States military identification card that
1919 contains the person's photograph that has not expired or that
2020 expired no earlier than 60 days before the date of presentation;
2121 (3) a United States citizenship certificate issued to
2222 the person that contains the person's photograph;
2323 (4) a United States passport issued to the person that
2424 has not expired or that expired no earlier than 60 days before the
2525 date of presentation; [or]
2626 (5) a license to carry a handgun issued to the person
2727 by the Department of Public Safety that has not expired or that
2828 expired no earlier than 60 days before the date of presentation; or
2929 (6) a valid identification card that contains the
3030 person's photograph issued by a tribal organization.
3131 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3232 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3333 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3434 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3535 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
