| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | amended by adding Section 1701.2511 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Sec. 1701.2511. OFFICER TRAINING ADVISORY COMMITTEE. (a) |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | The officer training advisory committee is created. The committee |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | is composed of: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (1) one member of the legislature, appointed by the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | governor and designated by the governor as the chair of the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | committee; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (2) three members of the senate, appointed by the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | lieutenant governor; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (3) three members of the house of representatives, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (b) The committee shall conduct a study of the training |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | programs the commission establishes and maintains under this |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | chapter for officers who are required to hold a license as provided |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | by Section 1701.301. The study must take into account the school |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | curriculum, examination requirement, and training programs |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | required for a person who seeks to become licensed as an officer. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (c) The committee shall meet at the call of the chair. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (d) Not later than December 1, 2018, the committee shall |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | report the committee's findings and recommendations to the members |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | of the legislature. The committee's recommendations must include |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | ways to improve the training programs provided by the commission to |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | persons who seek a license as an officer under this chapter. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | (e) This section expires December 1, 2019. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | SECTION 2. Not later than November 1, 2017, the relevant |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | appointing officers shall appoint the members of the peace officer |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | training advisory committee under Section 1701.2511, Occupations |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Code, as added by this Act. |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
