66 AN ACT
77 relating to the representation required for the membership of the
88 Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 61.022(a), Education Code, is amended to
1111 read as follows:
1212 (a) The board shall consist of nine members appointed by the
1313 governor so as to provide representation from diverse [all] areas
1414 of the state with the advice and consent of the senate, and as the
1515 constitution provides. Members of the board serve staggered
1616 six-year terms. The terms of one-third of the members expire August
1717 31 of each odd-numbered year.
1818 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1919 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2020 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2121 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2222 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
