9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 61.014(b), Election Code, is amended to | |
11 | 11 | read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (b) A person may not use any mechanical or electronic means | |
13 | 13 | to record [of recording] images or sound within 100 feet of a voting | |
14 | 14 | station except that a person occupying a voting station may use a | |
15 | 15 | mechanical or electronic device to photograph the person's | |
16 | 16 | completed ballot. | |
17 | 17 | SECTION 2. Section 62.0111(b), Election Code, is amended to | |
18 | 18 | read as follows: | |
19 | 19 | (b) The secretary of state shall prescribe the wording of a | |
20 | 20 | notice posted under this section, which may include a description | |
21 | 21 | of the exception provided by Section 61.014(b). | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
23 | 23 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
24 | 24 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
25 | 25 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
26 | 26 | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
