55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to allowing a person to register a motor vehicle when
88 delinquent in the payment of certain civil penalties.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 707.017, Transportation Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 707.017. REGISTRATION AFTER CIVIL PENALTY IMPOSED
1313 [ENFORCEMENT]. Neither the [(a) If the owner of a motor vehicle is
1414 delinquent in the payment of a civil penalty imposed under this
1515 chapter, the] county assessor-collector nor [or] the Texas
1616 Department of Motor Vehicles may refuse to register a motor
1717 vehicle, under Section 502.010 or any other law, solely because the
1818 owner of the motor vehicle is delinquent in the payment of a civil
1919 penalty imposed under this chapter [alleged to have been involved
2020 in the violation].
2121 [(b) This section does not apply to the registration of a
2222 motor vehicle under Section 501.0234.]
2323 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
