| 7 | 7 | | relating to the inclusion of certain courses and activities for |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | certain public school students in the calculation of the required |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | minutes of instruction. |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 25.081, Education Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (a-1) For purposes of this section, the number of minutes of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | instruction that a student receives under Subsection (a) includes: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) time allocated by the district for a high school |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | student to receive credit for: |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (A) a dual credit course; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (B) an accelerated instruction program; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (C) an electronic course, as that term is defined |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | by Section 30A.001; or |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (D) any internship, course, or activity approved |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | for credit by the district; or |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (2) the amount of time scheduled for the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | administration of a final high school course examination for a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | student who has received an exemption from the examination by |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | satisfying any attendance and grade requirements specified by the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | district. |

| 28 | 28 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | school year. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
|---|
