55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the inclusion of certain courses and activities for
88 certain public school students in the calculation of the required
99 minutes of instruction.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 25.081, Education Code, is amended by
1212 adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows:
1313 (a-1) For purposes of this section, the number of minutes of
1414 instruction that a student receives under Subsection (a) includes:
1515 (1) time allocated by the district for a high school
1616 student to receive credit for:
1717 (A) a dual credit course;
1818 (B) an accelerated instruction program;
1919 (C) an electronic course, as that term is defined
2020 by Section 30A.001; or
2121 (D) any internship, course, or activity approved
2222 for credit by the district; or
2323 (2) the amount of time scheduled for the
2424 administration of a final high school course examination for a
2525 student who has received an exemption from the examination by
2626 satisfying any attendance and grade requirements specified by the
2727 district.
2828 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018
2929 school year.
3030 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3131 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3232 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3333 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3434 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
