| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 2051, Government Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | adding Subchapter E to read as follows: |

| 12 | 12 | | SUBCHAPTER E. NOTICE BY PUBLICATION ON INTERNET FOR POLITICAL |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | SUBDIVISIONS |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Sec. 2051.151. NOTICE BY PUBLICATION ON INTERNET. A |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | political subdivision may satisfy a requirement in any other law to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | provide notice by publication in a newspaper by posting the notice |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | continuously from the earliest date provided for in the requirement |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | until the day after the date the action for which notice was |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | required occurs: |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (1) on its Internet website; or |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (2) on a social media website, provided that: |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (A) the political subdivision controls the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | content of the posting; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (B) the notice is easily found by searching the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | name of the political subdivision on the Internet. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
