| 13 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 14 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 33, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 15 | 9 | | amended by adding Section 33.093 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 16 | 10 | | Sec. 33.093. RECOGNITION OF PARTICIPATION IN SPECIAL |
|---|
| 17 | 11 | | OLYMPICS. If a school district allows high school students to earn |
|---|
| 18 | 12 | | a letter for academic, athletic, or extracurricular achievements, |
|---|
| 19 | 13 | | the district must allow high school students in the district to earn |
|---|
| 20 | 14 | | a letter on the basis of a student's participation in a Special |
|---|
| 21 | 15 | | Olympics event. |
|---|
| 22 | 16 | | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018 |
|---|
| 23 | 17 | | school year. |
|---|
| 24 | 18 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 25 | 19 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 26 | 20 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |

| 27 | 21 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |

| 28 | 22 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
