66 AN ACT
77 relating to successful completion of a United States history dual
88 credit course as an alternative to compliance with the United
99 States history end-of-course assessment requirement.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 39.025, Education Code, is amended by
1212 adding Subsection (a-5) to read as follows:
1313 (a-5) A student enrolled in an eligible United States
1414 history dual credit course provided through an institution of
1515 higher education or a private or independent institution of higher
1616 education, as those terms are defined under Section 61.003, is
1717 eligible to be exempt from administration of the United States
1818 history end-of-course assessment instrument as prescribed by
1919 Subsection (a). A student who fails to successfully complete the
2020 United States history dual credit course must take the United
2121 States history end-of-course assessment instrument. The
2222 commissioner shall adopt rules as necessary for the administration
2323 of this subsection.
2424 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018
2525 school year.
2626 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2727 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2828 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2929 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3030 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
