| 12 | 6 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 13 | 7 | SECTION 1. Section 387.003, Local Government Code, is | |
| 14 | 8 | amended by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (k) to | |
| 15 | 9 | read as follows: | |
| 16 | 10 | (a) The commissioners court of the county may call an | |
| 17 | 11 | election on the question of creating a county assistance district | |
| 18 | 12 | under this chapter. More than one county assistance district may be | |
| 19 | 13 | created in a county. A district may consist of noncontiguous | |
| 20 | 14 | tracts. | |
| 21 | 15 | (k) A district annexing territory under this section may | |
| 22 | 16 | annex territory that is not adjacent or contiguous to the district. | |
| 23 | 17 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. | |
