88 AN ACT
99 relating to compensation of certain justices and judges for
1010 performing extrajudicial services.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 659.012(a), Government Code, is amended
1313 to read as follows:
1414 (a) Notwithstanding Section 659.011:
1515 (1) a judge of a district court is entitled to an
1616 annual salary from the state of at least $125,000, except that the
1717 combined salary of a district judge from state and county sources,
1818 not including compensation for any extrajudicial services
1919 performed on behalf of the county, may not exceed the amount that is
2020 $5,000 less than the salary provided for a justice of a court of
2121 appeals other than a chief justice;
2222 (2) a justice of a court of appeals other than the
2323 chief justice is entitled to an annual salary from the state that is
2424 equal to 110 percent of the salary of a district judge, except that
2525 the combined salary of a justice of the court of appeals other than
2626 the chief justice from all state and county sources, not including
2727 compensation for any extrajudicial services performed on behalf of
2828 the county, may not exceed the amount that is $5,000 less than the
2929 salary provided for a justice of the supreme court;
3030 (3) a justice of the supreme court other than the chief
3131 justice or a judge of the court of criminal appeals other than the
3232 presiding judge is entitled to an annual salary from the state that
3333 is equal to 120 percent of the salary of a district judge; and
3434 (4) the chief justice or presiding judge of an
3535 appellate court is entitled to an annual salary from the state that
3636 is $2,500 more than the salary provided for the other justices or
3737 judges of the court, except that the combined salary of the chief
3838 justice of a court of appeals may not exceed the amount that is
3939 $2,500 less than the salary provided for a justice of the supreme
4040 court.
4141 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
