| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 659.012(a), Government Code, is amended |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (a) Notwithstanding Section 659.011: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) a judge of a district court is entitled to an |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | annual salary from the state of at least $125,000, except that the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | combined salary of a district judge from state and county sources, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | not including compensation for any extrajudicial services |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | performed on behalf of the county, may not exceed the amount that is |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | $5,000 less than the salary provided for a justice of a court of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | appeals other than a chief justice; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (2) a justice of a court of appeals other than the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | chief justice is entitled to an annual salary from the state that is |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | equal to 110 percent of the salary of a district judge, except that |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the combined salary of a justice of the court of appeals other than |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the chief justice from all state and county sources, not including |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | compensation for any extrajudicial services performed on behalf of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the county, may not exceed the amount that is $5,000 less than the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | salary provided for a justice of the supreme court; |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | (3) a justice of the supreme court other than the chief |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | justice or a judge of the court of criminal appeals other than the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | presiding judge is entitled to an annual salary from the state that |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | is equal to 120 percent of the salary of a district judge; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | (4) the chief justice or presiding judge of an |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | appellate court is entitled to an annual salary from the state that |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | is $2,500 more than the salary provided for the other justices or |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | judges of the court, except that the combined salary of the chief |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | justice of a court of appeals may not exceed the amount that is |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | $2,500 less than the salary provided for a justice of the supreme |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | court. |

| 41 | 41 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
