66 AN ACT
77 relating to the expiration of certain security officer commissions.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 1702.301, Occupations Code, is amended
1010 by amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (b-1) to read as
1111 follows:
1212 (b) Except as provided by Subsection (b-1), a [A] security
1313 officer commission expires on the second anniversary of the date
1414 the commission is issued.
1515 (b-1) A security officer commission issued to a person who
1616 is not a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the
1717 United States or a refugee or asylee lawfully admitted into the
1818 United States expires on the earlier of:
1919 (1) the second anniversary of the date the commission
2020 is issued; or
2121 (2) the expiration of the person's lawful presence in
2222 the United States as determined by the appropriate United States
2323 agency in compliance with federal law.
2424 SECTION 2. Section 1702.301, Occupations Code, as amended
2525 by this Act, applies only to a security officer commission issued or
2626 renewed on or after the effective date of this Act. A security
2727 officer commission issued or renewed before the effective date of
2828 this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the security
2929 officer commission was issued or renewed, and the former law is
3030 continued in effect for that purpose.
3131 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
