| 7 | 7 | | relating to the expiration of certain security officer commissions. |

| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 1702.301, Occupations Code, is amended |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | by amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (b-1) to read as |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (b) Except as provided by Subsection (b-1), a [A] security |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | officer commission expires on the second anniversary of the date |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the commission is issued. |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (b-1) A security officer commission issued to a person who |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | is not a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | United States or a refugee or asylee lawfully admitted into the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | United States expires on the earlier of: |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (1) the second anniversary of the date the commission |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | is issued; or |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (2) the expiration of the person's lawful presence in |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the United States as determined by the appropriate United States |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | agency in compliance with federal law. |

| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 2. Section 1702.301, Occupations Code, as amended |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | by this Act, applies only to a security officer commission issued or |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | renewed on or after the effective date of this Act. A security |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | officer commission issued or renewed before the effective date of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the security |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | officer commission was issued or renewed, and the former law is |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | continued in effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
