104 AN ACT
115 relating to the use of connected braking systems to maintain
126 distance between vehicles.
137 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
148 SECTION 1. Section 545.062, Transportation Code, is amended
159 by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
1610 (d) An operator of a vehicle equipped with a connected
1711 braking system that is following another vehicle equipped with that
1812 system may be assisted by the system to maintain an assured clear
1913 distance or sufficient space as required by this section. In this
2014 subsection, "connected braking system" means a system by which the
2115 braking of one vehicle is electronically coordinated with the
2216 braking system of a following vehicle.
2317 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2418 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2519 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2620 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2721 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
