| 13 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 14 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 545.062, Transportation Code, is amended |
|---|
| 15 | 9 | | by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 16 | 10 | | (d) An operator of a vehicle equipped with a connected |
|---|
| 17 | 11 | | braking system that is following another vehicle equipped with that |
|---|
| 18 | 12 | | system may be assisted by the system to maintain an assured clear |
|---|
| 19 | 13 | | distance or sufficient space as required by this section. In this |
|---|
| 20 | 14 | | subsection, "connected braking system" means a system by which the |
|---|
| 21 | 15 | | braking of one vehicle is electronically coordinated with the |
|---|
| 22 | 16 | | braking system of a following vehicle. |

| 23 | 17 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 24 | 18 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 25 | 19 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 26 | 20 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 27 | 21 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
