The bill would amend the Penal Code relating to the criminal consequences of engaging in certain conduct with respect to a firearm silencer. Under the provisions of the bill, certain requirements, which allow for certain conduct would be modified. The Department of Public Safety and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice indicate the provisions of the bill could be implemented within existing resources. The bill would take effect on September 1, 2017 and apply only to offenses committed on or after the effective date of the Act. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
