| 8 | 8 | | request for a study from an institution of higher education. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 2052, Government Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | adding Subchapter E to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | SUBCHAPTER E. MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 2052.351. DEFINITIONS. In this subchapter: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (1) "Institution of higher education" has the meaning |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | assigned by Section 61.003, Education Code. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (2) "State agency" means a department, commission, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | board, office, council, authority, or other agency in the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | executive, judicial, or legislative branch of state government that |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | is created by the constitution or a statute of this state. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Sec. 2052.352. REPORT TO LEGISLATURE ON STUDY REQUEST. A |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | state agency that requests the performance of a study from an |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | institution of higher education shall, not later than the 30th day |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | after the date of the request, submit to the legislature a report |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | including: |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (1) a summary of the subject and purpose of the study; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (2) the institution of higher education from which the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | study was requested; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (3) the anticipated cost of the study. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
