66 AN ACT
77 relating to the designation of portions of certain highways as the
88 Tom Lea Trail.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 442, Government Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 442.033 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 442.033. TOM LEA TRAIL AS TEXAS HISTORIC HIGHWAY. (a)
1313 The commission shall cooperate with the Texas Department of
1414 Transportation to designate, interpret, and market the following
1515 segments of highway as the Tom Lea Trail and a Texas historic
1616 highway:
1717 (1) Interstate Highway 10 from its intersection with
1818 the northern municipal boundary of El Paso to its intersection with
1919 Interstate Highway 20;
2020 (2) Interstate Highway 20 from its intersection with
2121 Interstate Highway 10 to its intersection with the western
2222 municipal boundary of Sweetwater;
2323 (3) Interstate Highway 20 from its intersection with
2424 the eastern municipal boundary of Sweetwater to its intersection
2525 with U.S. Highway 277;
2626 (4) U.S. Highway 277 from its intersection with
2727 Interstate Highway 10 to its intersection with State Highway 114 in
2828 Seymour;
2929 (5) State Highway 114 from its intersection with U.S.
3030 Highway 277 in Seymour to its intersection with State Highway 199;
3131 (6) State Highway 199 from its intersection with U.S.
3232 Highway 281 to its intersection with Interstate Highway 30;
3333 (7) Interstate Highway 30 from its intersection with
3434 State Highway 199 to its intersection with Interstate Highway 35
3535 East in Dallas;
3636 (8) Interstate Highway 35 East from its intersection
3737 with Interstate Highway 30 in Dallas to its intersection with State
3838 Highway 6 outside of the southern municipal boundary of Waco;
3939 (9) State Highway 6 from its intersection with
4040 Interstate 35 East to its intersection with State Highway 30 in
4141 College Station;
4242 (10) State Highway 30 from its intersection with State
4343 Highway 6 in College Station to its intersection with Interstate
4444 Highway 45;
4545 (11) Interstate Highway 45 from its intersection with
4646 State Highway 30 to its terminus in Galveston;
4747 (12) State Highway 21 from its intersection with State
4848 Highway 6 to its intersection with U.S. Highway 290;
4949 (13) U.S. Highway 290 from its intersection with
5050 State Highway 21 to its intersection with the eastern municipal
5151 boundary of Austin;
5252 (14) U.S. Highway 290 from its intersection with the
5353 western municipal boundary of Austin to its intersection with the
5454 eastern municipal boundary of Fredericksburg;
5555 (15) U.S. Highway 290 from its intersection with the
5656 western municipal boundary of Fredericksburg to its intersection
5757 with Interstate Highway 10;
5858 (16) Interstate Highway 10 from its intersection with
5959 U.S. Highway 290:
6060 (A) west to its intersection with U.S. Highway
6161 385; and
6262 (B) east to its intersection with Interstate
6363 Highway 37;
6464 (17) U.S. Highway 385 from its intersection with
6565 Interstate Highway 10 to its intersection with the southern
6666 municipal boundary of Odessa;
6767 (18) Interstate Highway 37 from its intersection with
6868 Interstate Highway 10 to its intersection with U.S. Highway 77;
6969 (19) U.S. Highway 77 from its intersection with
7070 Interstate Highway 37 to its intersection with the northern
7171 municipal boundary of Kingsville;
7272 (20) U.S. Highway 77 from its intersection with the
7373 southern municipal boundary of Kingsville to its intersection with
7474 State Highway 285 in Riviera; and
7575 (21) State Highway 285 from its intersection with U.S.
7676 Highway 77 in Riviera to its intersection with the eastern
7777 municipal boundary of Hebbronville.
7878 (b) In this section, a reference to a municipal boundary
7979 means that boundary as it exists on September 1, 2017.
8080 (c) To supplement revenue available for the purposes under
8181 Subsection (a), the commission and the Texas Department of
8282 Transportation may pursue federal funds dedicated to highway
8383 enhancement.
8484 (d) A designation of highway segments as the Tom Lea Trail
8585 and a Texas historic highway may not be construed as a designation
8686 under the National Historic Preservation Act (54 U.S.C. Section
8787 300101 et seq.).
8888 (e) The Texas Department of Transportation is not required
8989 to design, construct, or erect a marker under this section unless a
9090 grant or donation of funds is made to the department to cover the
9191 cost of the design, construction, and erection of the marker. Money
9292 received to cover the cost of the marker shall be deposited to the
9393 credit of the state highway fund.
9494 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
