The bill would amend a portion of the Parks and Wildlife Code by exempting certain individuals from the requirement to complete a mandatory hunter education program. The bill would exempt active duty members or veterans of the US military, Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, or Texas State Guard, and qualified active or retired peace officers. Under current law, veterans of the US military and active duty members of the US military, Texas Army National Guard, Texas Air National Guard, and Texas State Guard are exempted from the live firing portion of the hunter education program.Based upon information provided by the Comptroller of Public Accounts and the Parks and Wildlife Department, this analysis assumes that there will be minimal revenue loss to the Game, Fish, and Water Safety Account No. 9 as a result of implementing the provisions of the bill.
