| 15 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 16 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 62.014, Parks and Wildlife Code, is |
|---|
| 17 | 10 | | amended by amending Subsection (n) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 18 | 11 | | (n) The following persons are exempt from any requirement to |
|---|
| 19 | 12 | | complete [the live firing portion of] a hunter education course |
|---|
| 20 | 13 | | under this section: |
|---|
| 21 | 14 | | (1) an honorably discharged veteran of the United |
|---|
| 22 | 15 | | States armed forces[;] or |
|---|
| 23 | 16 | | [(2)] a person who is on active duty as a member of the |
|---|
| 24 | 17 | | United States armed [military] forces; |
|---|
| 25 | 18 | | (2) a person who is on active duty or has previously |
|---|
| 26 | 19 | | served as a member of the Texas Army National Guard, the Texas Air |
|---|
| 27 | 20 | | National Guard, or the Texas State Guard; or |
|---|
| 28 | 21 | | (3) a person who is serving or has previously served as |
|---|
| 29 | 22 | | a peace officer described by Subdivision (1), (2), (3), or (4), |
|---|
| 30 | 23 | | Article 2.12, Code of Criminal Procedure[, the Texas Army National |
|---|
| 31 | 24 | | Guard, the Texas Air National Guard, or the Texas State Guard]. |

| 32 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |

| 33 | 26 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |

| 34 | 27 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |

| 35 | 28 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
