| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 201, Transportation Code, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | is amended by adding Section 201.623 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 201.623. STUDY OF U.S. HIGHWAY 287. (a) The |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | department shall conduct a study of and make recommendations on |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | expanding and improving U.S. Highway 287 to meet interstate highway |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | standards and securing funding for the expansion and improvement. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (b) In conducting the study, the department shall consult |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | with the counties in which U.S. Highway 287 is located and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | municipalities located in those counties. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (c) Not later than September 1, 2018, the department shall |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | submit to the legislature a report containing the findings of the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | study and any recommendations. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (d) This section expires January 1, 2019. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
|---|
