99 relating to a limitation on civil suits against persons reporting
1010 suspicious activity in good faith.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Title 6, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, is
1313 amended by adding Chapter 128A to read as follows:
1414 CHAPTER 128A. LIMITATION ON SUITS AGAINST CERTAIN PERSONS
1515 REPORTING SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY
1616 Sec. 128A.001. LIMITATION ON CIVIL ACTION. A civil action
1717 related to a report of suspicious activity of another person to an
1818 appropriate law enforcement authority may not be brought against
1919 the person who made the report if the person acted:
2020 (1) as a reasonable person would in the same or similar
2121 circumstances; and
2222 (2) with a reasonable belief that the suspicious
2323 activity constituted or was in furtherance of a crime, including an
2424 act of terrorism.
2525 SECTION 2. Section 128A.001, Civil Practice and Remedies
2626 Code, as added by this Act, applies only to a cause of action that
2727 accrues on or after the effective date of this Act.
2828 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
