| 7 | 7 | | relating to a study by the Texas Department of Transportation of the |

| 8 | 8 | | feasibility of certain improvements to Interstate Highway 27. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. (a) In this Act, "improvement" has the meaning |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | assigned by Section 221.001, Transportation Code. |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (b) The Texas Department of Transportation shall conduct a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | comprehensive study of the feasibility of and the costs and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | logistical matters associated with improvements that: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) extend Interstate Highway 27: |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (A) from its northern terminus to Dumas; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (B) from Dumas to Stratford; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (C) from Stratford to the Oklahoma state border; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (2) extend Interstate Highway 27: |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (A) from its northern terminus to Dumas; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (B) from Dumas to Dalhart; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (C) from Dalhart to the New Mexico state border. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (c) Not later than January 1, 2019, the Texas Department of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Transportation shall submit a report on the results of the study to |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | representatives, and the presiding officer of each standing |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | committee of the legislature with jurisdiction over transportation |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | matters. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | (d) This Act expires August 31, 2019. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
