9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 406, Government Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 406.027 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 406.027. NOTARY PUBLIC FEE SCHEDULE. (a) The | |
13 | 13 | secretary of state by rule shall adopt a fee schedule for notary | |
14 | 14 | public services. | |
15 | 15 | (b) The fee schedule must: | |
16 | 16 | (1) set fees that are fair and reasonable; and | |
17 | 17 | (2) assure the public's access to a notary public. | |
18 | 18 | (c) The secretary of state may adjust the fee schedule | |
19 | 19 | adopted under this section each calendar year as necessary to | |
20 | 20 | reflect inflation. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 2. Section 406.024, Government Code, is repealed. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 3. As soon as practicable after the effective date | |
23 | 23 | of this Act, the secretary of state shall adopt rules necessary to | |
24 | 24 | implement Section 406.027, Government Code, as added by this Act. | |
25 | 25 | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
