| 13 | 6 | | abandoned motor vehicles to reimburse law enforcement agencies for |

| 15 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 16 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 683.015(a), Transportation Code, is |
|---|
| 17 | 10 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 18 | 11 | | (a) A law enforcement agency is entitled to reimbursement |
|---|
| 19 | 12 | | from the proceeds of the sale of an abandoned motor vehicle, |
|---|
| 20 | 13 | | aircraft, watercraft, or outboard motor for: |
|---|
| 21 | 14 | | (1) the cost of the auction; |
|---|
| 22 | 15 | | (2) towing, preservation, and storage fees resulting |
|---|
| 23 | 16 | | from the taking into custody; [and] |
|---|
| 24 | 17 | | (3) the cost of notice or publication as required by |
|---|
| 25 | 18 | | Section 683.012; and |
|---|
| 26 | 19 | | (4) any compensation made by the agency under |
|---|
| 27 | 20 | | Subsection (f) to property owners whose property was damaged as a |
|---|
| 28 | 21 | | result of a pursuit involving the motor vehicle. |
|---|
| 29 | 22 | | SECTION 2. Section 683.015(a), Transportation Code, as |
|---|
| 30 | 23 | | amended by this Act, applies only to proceeds of a sale of an |
|---|
| 31 | 24 | | abandoned motor vehicle that takes place on or after the effective |
|---|
| 32 | 25 | | date of this Act. Proceeds of a sale of an abandoned motor vehicle |
|---|
| 33 | 26 | | that takes place before the effective date of this Act are governed |
|---|
| 34 | 27 | | by the law in effect on the date of the sale, and the former law is |
|---|
| 35 | 28 | | continued in effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 36 | 29 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
