| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 56.082, Education Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Sec. 56.082. ANNUAL [BIENNIAL] REPORT. [(a)] Not later |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | than January 1 of each [odd-numbered] year, the Texas Higher |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Education Coordinating Board shall submit to the governor, the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and the standing legislative committees with primary jurisdiction |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | over higher education and post on the coordinating board's Internet |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | website a report on the Texas college work-study program. The |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | report must include the total number of students employed through |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the program, disaggregated by: |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (1) race, ethnicity, and gender; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (2) major and certificate or degree program; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (3) classification as a freshman, sophomore, junior, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | or senior or the equivalent; |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (4) enrollment in a full course load or less than a |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | full course load, as determined by the coordinating board; |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (5) the employment position's location on or off |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | campus; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (6) [(2)] the employer's status as a for-profit or |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | nonprofit entity. |

| 33 | 33 | | [(b) Notwithstanding Subsection (a), the Texas Higher |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Education Coordinating Board shall submit its initial report under |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | that subsection not later than May 1, 2019. This subsection |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | expires September 1, 2019.] |

| 37 | 37 | | SECTION 2. Notwithstanding Section 56.082, Education Code, |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | as amended by this Act, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Board shall submit its initial report required under that section |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | not later than September 1, 2018. |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
