| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Chapter 17, Code of Criminal Procedure, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended by adding Article 17.034 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Art. 17.034. RELEASE ON PERSONAL BOND IN CERTAIN COUNTIES. | |
| 13 | 13 | Notwithstanding any other law, the sheriff of a county with a | |
| 14 | 14 | population of 700,000 or more but less than 780,000 may, with the | |
| 15 | 15 | consent of the attorney representing the state in that county, | |
| 16 | 16 | develop policies and procedures for the release of defendants on | |
| 17 | 17 | personal bond if necessary to alleviate overcrowding in the county | |
| 18 | 18 | jail. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
