55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the qualifications of the board members of the Texas
88 Department of Motor Vehicles.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 1001.021(b), Transportation Code, is
1111 amended to read as follows:
1212 (b) Two [Three] members must be persons who hold a dealer's
1313 license issued under Chapter 2301, Occupations Code, of whom one
1414 [two] must be a franchised dealer [dealers of different classes]
1515 and one must be an independent dealer. One[; one] member must be a
1616 representative of a manufacturer or distributor that holds a
1717 license issued under Chapter 2301, Occupations Code. Two members[;
1818 one member] must be county [a] tax assessor-collectors. One member
1919 must be a member of a county commissioners court. One
2020 [assessor-collector; one] member must be a representative of a law
2121 enforcement agency of a county or municipality. One[; and one]
2222 member must be a representative of the motor carrier industry. One
2323 member [The remaining members] must be a public member [members].
2424 SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act do not affect
2525 the entitlement of a member of the board of the Texas Department of
2626 Motor Vehicles serving on the board immediately before the
2727 effective date of this Act to continue to carry out the board's
2828 functions for the remainder of the member's term of appointment.
2929 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
