8 | 8 | the United States Department of Homeland Security concerning the | |
9 | 9 | enforcement of federal immigration laws. | |
10 | 10 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 411, Government Code, is | |
12 | 12 | amended by adding Section 411.00962 to read as follows: | |
13 | 13 | Sec. 411.00962. MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH UNITED | |
14 | 14 | STATES DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY. (a) The director shall | |
15 | 15 | negotiate the terms of a memorandum of understanding between this | |
16 | 16 | state and the United States Department of Homeland Security | |
17 | 17 | concerning the role of the department in enforcing federal | |
18 | 18 | immigration laws, in accordance with 8 U.S.C. Section 1357(g). | |
19 | 19 | (b) The memorandum of understanding must be signed by the | |
20 | 20 | director or by another individual as required by the United States | |
21 | 21 | Department of Homeland Security. | |
22 | 22 | (c) Not later than March 1, 2018, the director shall report | |
23 | 23 | to the legislature the results of the director's negotiations under | |
24 | 24 | this section. | |
25 | 25 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
