| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 60, Water Code, is amended |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | by adding Section 60.005 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 60.005. EXEMPTION FROM TAXATION AND SPECIAL |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | ASSESSMENTS. The property of a district is public property used for |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | essential public and governmental purposes. The district and the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | district's property are exempt from all taxes and special |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | assessments imposed by this state or a political subdivision of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | this state. |

| 18 | 18 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
