| 13 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 14 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 504, Transportation Code, |
|---|
| 15 | 9 | | is amended by adding Section 504.668 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 16 | 10 | | Sec. 504.668. BACK THE BLUE LICENSE PLATES. (a) The |
|---|
| 17 | 11 | | department shall issue specialty license plates that include a thin |
|---|
| 18 | 12 | | blue line and the words "Back the Blue." |
|---|
| 19 | 13 | | (b) After deduction of the department's administrative |
|---|
| 20 | 14 | | costs, the remainder of the fee for issuance of the license plates |
|---|
| 21 | 15 | | shall be deposited to the credit of an account created by the |
|---|
| 22 | 16 | | comptroller in the manner provided by Section 504.6012(b). Money |
|---|
| 23 | 17 | | deposited to that account may be used only by the Employees |
|---|
| 24 | 18 | | Retirement System of Texas to provide financial assistance to |
|---|
| 25 | 19 | | survivors of peace officers under Chapter 615, Government Code. |

| 26 | 20 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
