8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 662.003(c), Government Code, is amended | |
10 | 10 | to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | (c) An "optional holiday" includes any religious holiday | |
12 | 12 | [only the days on which Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, or Good Friday | |
13 | 13 | falls]. | |
14 | 14 | SECTION 2. Section 662.006, Government Code, is amended by | |
15 | 15 | adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: | |
16 | 16 | (d) A state employee must give the employing state agency | |
17 | 17 | reasonable notice of the employee's intent to take a paid day off on | |
18 | 18 | an optional holiday. | |
19 | 19 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
20 | 20 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
21 | 21 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
22 | 22 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
23 | 23 | Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
