| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 52.031, Election Code, is amended by | |
| 10 | 10 | amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (a-1) to read as | |
| 11 | 11 | follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) A candidate's name shall be printed on the ballot with | |
| 13 | 13 | the given name or initials first, followed by a nickname, if any, | |
| 14 | 14 | followed by the surname, including any married name, in accordance | |
| 15 | 15 | with this section. | |
| 16 | 16 | (a-1) A person may use any surname acquired by law or | |
| 17 | 17 | marriage. | |
| 18 | 18 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
